Key Responsibilities:

  • Labour requirements for shutdowns and Projects
  • Ensure all rigging and lifting operations are planned, risk-assessed, and executed safely.
  • Supervise rigging teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Verify lifting equipment certifications and condition (slings, shackles, cranes, lifting beams, etc.).
  • Conduct toolbox talks and pre-lift meetings to align teams on roles and safety measures.
  • Ensure correct selection of rigging gear based on load weight, centre of gravity, and lift plan.
  • Coordinate with crane operators and riggers during critical lifts.

Scope of Work:

  • Preparation and execution of lifts involving - Washplants, Dragline, Excavators, Structural Steel.
  • Execution of various rigging techniques: straight lifts, dual crane lifts, tailing operations, blind lifts, etc.
  • Rigging loads in confined/complex environments (e.g., shutdowns, projects, general maintenance).

Rigging Types:

  • Chain blocks, lever blocks, spreader beams, synthetic slings, wire ropes, lifting frames, general lifting arrangements.
  • Crane selection: Non-Slew, Slew Crane and Crawler

Safety Focus:

  • Load path management
  • Communication protocols (hand signals, radio)
  • Load stability and environmental monitoring (wind speed, ground conditions)

Planning and Execution of Shutdowns and Projects

Shutdown Planning:

  • Develop detailed shutdown plans with defined scopes, durations, and critical path items.
  • Prepare Gantt charts and work packs and align with permit-to-work systems.
  • Pre-shutdown walkdowns and readiness reviews.

Execution Focus:

  • Mobilization of labour, equipment, tools, and lifting gear.
  • Execute tasks under compressed schedules with strict adherence to safety.
  • Daily progress monitoring, issue resolution, and stakeholder communication.
  • Closeout reports, lessons learned, and post-shutdown evaluations.
